Members of the UK’s biggest rail union, Aslef, have voted overwhelmingly in favour of striking in reaction to a dispute with Southern railway over driver-only trains.
The union will have to give seven days’ notice of any industrial action but more stoppages are planned in the coming weeks, in the run-up to Christmas and over the new year.
London Underground drivers are to stage a 24-hour strike on 6 and 7 December, coinciding with a walkout by Southern rail guards.
The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union plans to strike on this dates:
• 00:01 Tuesday 6 December to 23:59 Thursday 8 December
• 00:01 Thursday 22 December to 23:59 Saturday 24 December
• 00:01 Saturday 31 December to 23:59 Monday 2 January
