Airport security strikes, such as have recently occurred in Barcelona, could soon take place at airports in Valencia and Alicante. Prosegur staff at Valencia airport have threatened to strike over low salaries and cuts. Alicante could also face strikes if upcoming meetings between the Ministry of Public Works and trade unions do not result in an agreement.
Security firms competing to offer the lowest prices to secure lucrative security and cleaning contracts are believed to be responsible for driving down wages. The trade unions are directly accusing companies such as the Ralons Group, who own Security Integral Canarias, of creating the conditions which have resulted in decreases in pay and poor working conditions.
Similar strikes have caused havoc at Barcelona El Prat Airport and both tourists and commuters alike will be hoping that a solution can be found to this issue quickly.
